What BATNA actually means
BATNA = Best Alternative To a Negotiated Agreement. It is not your target, not your walkaway, and not your wishlist. It is the actual, specific, executable thing you'll do if this negotiation fails. The single most-common BATNA mistake is treating it as aspirational. 'We have other options' is not a BATNA. 'We have a signed term sheet from Acme at $2.6M, expiring Friday' is.
